The competition was held in two steps. First, the models had to undergo static evaluation inside “Rubin” Congress Center, then they moved on to participate in more dynamic starts on water. The models ran in “Zvezdniy” Water Sports Center. Here, from 1 to 3 November 2025 the competitors demonstrated their navigation expertise to the delight of many spectators.

This year’s international competition was special in a way that it took place inside the pool rather than outside. Besides, the competition schedule included a recently formed F-FPV Class of models. Just like driving a drone, the competitor should put on special glasses and observe the model via the camera installed right on the ship. Using this picture, the modeler then tries to navigate along all the course. It is forbidden to look at the model other than though the glasses.

The competition also included another quite new sports discipline – F2-S Class, which comprises models-copies of submarines and other underwater self-propelled vehicles. The submarines have to complete the usual course and in addition, they are obliged to submerge and stay underwater for at least 5 seconds. Both submersion and re-surfacing maneuvers are awarded with extra points.

Sergey Okonechnikov, a modeler from Kazakhstan, also brought his submarine model. As he claims, models-copies of submarines are one of the most challenging models as concerns their technical side. There are even models which imitate the real ones in their propulsion. These are equipped with water tanks which take in water during the submersion and displace it while resurfacing. The modeler should also make sure that the model control elements are protected from water.

It is specifically worth noting that the organization level of the event was superb, especially as Tomsk has hosted an international shipmodeling competition of such high ranking for the first time ever.

Competition results, medals: the Russian team won 33 medals, teams from the Czech Republic, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
