In the recent few years, Vladivostok has hosted several international shipmodeling and robotics competitions, thus becoming an eastern hub for technical sports and creative work.
This year, the competition is held on a large and generous scale. Approximately 100 participants are to compete in various age groups and model categories, including radio-controlled scaled models, speed and cord models as well as static ship models. Altogether, 26 classes are presented during the championship.
Eurasia Championship-2024 attracted applications from modelers coming from 9 different countries: Russian Federation, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Belarus, Lithuania, Jordan, Yemen, Palestine, Indonesia. Sport teams from Russia and China brought the largest number of competitors.
Before the ceremony itself started, all the models (both static and radio-controlled ones) had to undergo static evaluation. The competitors were invited to attend an excursion to the Arctic Museum where they could enjoy observing models of modern icebreakers and cargo vessels which regularly run along the Northern Sea Route.
While the participants and visitors were waiting for the ceremony to commence inside the Training Center Hall, they watched broadcast videos of previous Vladivostok festivals and regional shipmodeling competitions. The presenters greeted the ceremony attendees in two languages, Russian and English.
As the ceremony began, the presenters read a welcoming speech which had been sent to the competition organizing committee from Svetlana Smirnova, Chairperson of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly. Other notable speakers also greeted the competitors and wished them success at the championship, among them Denis Burov, Rector of Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University; Yuriy Grachev, representative of Ministry of Physical Culture and Sport of Primorskiy Krai; Sergei Krylov, Counselor to the Chairman of Vladivostok City Parliament (Duma); Van Syuechun, Deputy Consul General of China in Vladivostok; Andrey Lapitskiy, Deputy Chief Executive of JSC Dalnevostochniy Center for Shipbuilding and Shiprepair”.
The beginning of the international shipmodeling competition was symbolically marked by the sound of the ship bell struck by Vladimir Zhornik, President of Federation of Ship Modeling Sport of Russia and Mikhail Kholosha, Chairman of Primorskiy Krai Regional Branch of FSMR. The competition results will be drawn and announced at the closing ceremony, on 22 August 2024.
