From 30 October 2023 to 5 November 2023, two outstanding maritime institutions hosted “Tsemes Bay Cup-2023” International Shipmodeling Competition and, for the first time, Russian Shipmodeling Sport Championship among static models (C Category). The hosts were Admiral Ushakov Maritime State University in Novorossiysk and Novorossiysk Fleet History Club. This annual event celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2023 and attracted over 250 models which were brought to Novorossiysk…
The opening ceremony took place on 31 October 2023, in the University’s Marble Hall. However, many guests and university cadets came to see the models the day before, as soon as the exposition had opened to the public. Looking at the beautifully aligned models, you unwittingly start remembering pieces of poems dedicated to seafaring and ships…The Marble Hall was a meeting point for all sorts of ships and vessels: frigates and formidable battleships, miniature submarines and ice-breakers, nuclear-powered vessels, sailing ships etc. And no wonder - the participants of “Tsemes Bay Cup-2023” International Competition who gathered in Admiral Ushakov Maritime State University were “crème de la crème” of ship modelers from Russia and Belarus.
In total, 21 judges worked at the Cup and the Championship led by Dmitriy Kalmykov (Minsk, Belarus) as Chief Judge. He is Judge of International Category and President of ShipModel Sport International Federation (SMSIF).
Since 2015, it has been the fifth time that Novorossiysk Fleet History Club has held “Tsemes Bay Cup-2023” International Shipmodeling Competition. This year, the participants competed over 50 sets of awards in different classes where the best modelers won Gold (senior and junior), Silver and Bronze Cups. The team of judges, sponsors and spectators traditionally determined winners of 19 nominations of “Tsemes Bay Cup-2023”.
This event was a genuine shipmodeling celebration and it was kindly supported by artists, photographers, naval modelers, creative clubs and teams. Besides, the competition schedule included a seminar for shipmodeling sport judges.
The closing and awards ceremony took place on 5 November, at 12:00 pm, again in the University’s Marble Hall. To sum up, one can definitely say that “Tsemes Bay Cup-2023” is more than just a communication platform for people keen on this unusual sport. The organizers’ overarching aim is to prepare engineering staff for shipbuilding and industrial spheres. And nobody is born an expert engineer – future specialists begin as schoolchildren when they come to school shipmodeling clubs…
